University of Cambridge, PhD Physical Chemistry 1985 – 1989

Marshall University, MSc Chemistry 1979 – 1981

Indiana University Bloomington, B.Sc. Chemistry 1975 – 1979

  • Received the Malaysian Merdeka Award for Health, Science & Technology – 2009
  • Served as an academic in UTM for 37 years
  • She was UTM’s first woman Professor at 40.
  • Pioneered the Zeolites and Nanostructured Materials Research in Malaysia in 1990.
  • Focused on the chemistry of silica-based nanostructured materials, namely aerogel, zeolites and mesoporous materials, synthesized from rice husk waste. Her research is about sustainable, green and clean processes by molecular manipulation to synthesize new nanostructured materials, systems and complexes via heterogeneous catalytic reactions.
  • She retired in June 2024 and formalised technical collaboration with Greentech World
